Thank goodness for navigation systems... The signs on the highways around Paris are a bit confusing because instead of saying 'north, south, east, west', it says the town that it's heading too. That's great if you know all of the towns, but for someone not familar, it's pretty much useless.
Ended up taking a small country highway from Paris towards Nancy which is one lane each direction. The speed limit varies between 90 and 110 km/hr to it wasn't too bad. In the Peugeot though, you really have to plan ahead when you want to pass. I've been spoiled with the Nissan and the Evo where you drop a gear or two, and floor it and it takes off. This Peugeot only has about 207hp and it's about the size of camary. Needless to say, you have to get a running start to make a pass on a car. Anyways, eventually hit some normal 2-lane each direction highways.
Imagine this... .slow traffic stays right and passing traffic only uses the left lane! I only saw one person staying in the left lane, but he was hauling ass. If only it worked this way in the US. I never once got held up by anyone. Also, I noticed that when people were passing, they left their left blinker on after having switced into the left lane. At first, I thought someone had just forgotten their blinker on but numerous people were doing it.
Adam and I decided to stop off in Nancy for dinner and found their centre-ville/downtown area. It's a big open square with restaurants on all sides. Lots of outdoor seating set into the open square area, like a hundred tables, for just having an appertif/drink. For actual eating, you sit next to the restaurant. One thing I had forgotten about France was that lots of people smoke here. I'd guess that about 1 in 5 are smoking anywhere in the outdoor seating areas. Anyways, we got some food, Adam had a chocolate covered waffle for dessert, and then we got back on the road to Epinal. Nancy is only about an hour drive away from Epinal, so I'll probably go check it out one weekend as the guys at work tell me it's the closest place with a nightlife.
Got into Epinal... it's a small town...
