Arrived in Vienna late yesterday and spent the night.

Got up this morning and had an amazing breakfast in a little cafe down the street.  I've slowly been trying to work raw tomatoes into my food with the hope that some sort of palatal acclimation (if one can even say that!) will take place.  I've been attempting the same with tea and have managed to realize a certain degree of success.  On a positive note, the tomatoes worked well with cheese and herbs.

I then wandered and took in a good chunk of the city.  I'm quite taken with what I've seen thus far...  The feel as a whole is quite relaxed and everything appears to be compact and walkable.  Adding to this, the public transport system is very well setup and reasonably priced.

Spent a decent bit of time in one place sipping coffee and people-watching.  Also had my first Sachertorte.  It was good...but nothing too amazing for my taste.  It's very similar to the muffins I've had so far:  rather dense and slightly sweet, but not enough to be categorized as "desserts."  I like this...but prefer ultra-rich, ultra-fatty, ultra-dark chocolate-based things that involve some kind of creamy or whipped side.  Think of the Godiva chocolate cake that the Cheesecake Factory offers.  You know, the really unhealthy oneThat is my kind of downfall.

In my opinion, it's better to offset the crazy sweetness with strong coffee instead of holding back on sugar or including something acidic and fruity (in this case, apricot).

In other food news (as it seems this entry is nothing more than the musings of a fat kid), this entire town seems to be with me on the proper serving temperature of coffee:  super warm.  NOT HOT.  For everyone who's familiar with my norm, I tend to order iced coffee -- even in January when I'd prefer to avoid it -- because I can't stand trying to sip something that was just shy of boiling a few seconds before it was handed to me.

Here, it's evidently common to receive coffee that's been pre-cooled...

I'm a fan.


And on that note, I think I'll be off for now.  Going to spend at least one more night here...if not more!
