We signed up to do a 5 days trek through the jungle to the ancient Tyrona Indian city of Cuidad Perdida (Lost City). It is believed to be older than Machu Picchu, was abandonded after the Spanish arrived and was only officially "found" in 1976. It was fantastic. The city is made up of about 450 terraces located in the middle of dense jungle on a steep mountain side. When you stand on the terraces and look out all you can see is tree covered mountains in all directions. I just canīt get my head around the reason for building these massive structures in difficult places... It really reminded us of a set from an Indiana Jones film. When we were crossing the streams we sung the theme tune to really set the scene. We didnt find it as impressive as Machu Picchu but Iīm not sure anything will match the stone work in MP. The trek itself was quite tiring as we were hiking through proper jungle which was very hot and steamy and the track was very basic with loads of mud, rock hopping and river crossings. Our group was made up of 6 people who were great. Lots of card and Yatsee games were had. We christened ourselves the Cali Crew- Canada, Australia x2, Latvia x2, and Ireland. A nice mix.
