We made it to Valley Forge! There was a very elaborate exhibit at the visitor center detailing the entire Revolutionary War as well as the Winter encampment of 1777-1778. On this hot, muggy July afternoon, it was hard to imagine the harsh winter conditions faced by the Continental Army 240 years ago.
The size of the encampment was startling as well. Driving the Encampment Trail, the roadway that leads to all the major defense positions, took us well over 1/2 hour. The highlight was Washington's Headquarters. It was a small farm house surrounded by a barn, and many incredibly small cabin housing the Commader-in-Chief's gaurd.
