Well, I finished my antibiotics ten days ago, had my final lab tests on June 30, and my last follow-up doctor visit yesterday.

I'm good to go. Liver, kidney, thyroid functions back to normal, protatitus tamed. I still have to see a urologist in August, but that is for future care of my prostate, not treating my e coli and prostatitus.

I knew I was better. A little while after finishing my antibiotics, I printed out maps of the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, Montenegro, Croatia and Slovenia and started circling places of interest and connecting them with a rough travel route.

I have a few regrets about my last trip. I enjoyed Egypt and Jordan, but I wasn't well enough to spend much time on the west bank of the Nile. In Jordan, my original plan was to rent a car and see some of the out-of-the-way places, but that didn't happen. And of course, I saw almost nothing of Morocco. I will go back there, but not right away. Higher up on my bucket list is Cambodia-Vietnam-Thailand-Laos, China, South America, and Eastern Europe.

Eastern Europe is looking like the next trip. A preliminary check on Orbitz shows flying into and out of Frankfort is the cheapest, and that in order to do a loop, looks like I would need to add a few Balkan countries. I think this will be the most adventurous trip yet. The itinerary is fairly well defined between landing in Frankfort to Bucharest, and from Dubrovnik back to Frankfort, but there is an open jaw at the bottom of the trip between Bucharest and Dubrovnik comprised of Bulgaria, Macedonia, Serbia, Bosnia, Kosovo, and Albania. I won't know the route until I get there and check out the lay of the land, both for serendipitous places to visit and available transportation.

It's possible I might have to fly between Bucharest and Dubrovnik -- but wait! I'm getting ahead of myself. I wanted to close out the Middle East trip in this journal entry.

Okay, this is the closure. It's over. Fini. Kaput. Acabado. Th-th-th-that's all, folks.

Regrets, I've had a few, but then again, too few to mention.

And the memories I have are locked in, but...

Notes for next trip: Same as always: TAKE MORE PICTURES OF PEOPLE. Where is my picture of Wolf, big Mohammed from Wake-Up Cairo Hostel (as opposed to Skinny Mohammed and Boss Mohammed from the same hostel)? The owner of the hotel in Petra? Else, Courtney and Elke at Cocomama's in Amsterdam? Brooklyn Dodger Don, Alan from Taiwan, Rene and Carolyn, Abtil from Iran?

Note to self: This time I mean it. Ask people if I can take their picture, preferably with me in the frame.

I'm going to try to put these journal entries on a web page. And I will try to get some pictures up, too. Honest. I just take lousy pictures. But I will try.

Next trip is actually Quebec in the fall. Not sure if I'll do a journal on that. And a cruise in January. How boring is a journal of a cruise. Yesterday I sat in a deck chair and read, and ate a lot of food. Today, I'm writing this from a deck chair, and am about to go eat. My plans tomorrow are to sit in a deck chair and read, then go eat. I don't think any of you would be much interested. Eastern Europe, though. Lots of interesting stuff there.

Stay tuned. (Though if you don't want to read these things, let me know and I'll be happy to remove your email address. Also, if you are sending these to anyone else (and that is fine, please do), if you give me the email address or have them send it to me, I can send it directly to them.

Until next time,
