Yesterday was July 4th...so happy 4th of July! As a means of celebration, Kait and I (we are the only two Americans left here we know) decided to take the day off work & give ourselves some TLC. I got a haircut...and dye...so now I have purple and red streaks (don't worry it looks good...I always look good!). We also scheduled manicures & pedicures for today, so I'm super excited about that. It seems trivial, but my feet are in desparate need...as Kait put it: "I don't understand how something with no limbs can be attaching itself to everything." In other words, our feet are like velcro. We were hoping for nice day to lay by the pool, but the past two days have been cloudy and drizzly.
Random story I don't want to forget to write down somewhere:
Here in Arusha, the only way to get any tv when you don't have a tv is to buy these cheap dvd copies for like $2 that guys sell on the streets. Kait and I have found one guy who sells them for really cheap and they are pretty good quality; plus he actually has a small store, so we don't get harassed when we are looking around. This guy is a petite muslim man with a gray beard (he's very cute). Apparently, he is not only a knockoff dvd salesman & store owner, but also a medical practitioner, as it seems he is always trying to cure our medical woes. One time we went in and he "predicted" that Kait had a headache, then proceeded to give her "acupuncture" with a pen, yes a writing pen. He shoved it under the nail on her thumb and asked if it hurt. When she replied that yes, in fact it did hurt because he was pressing awfully hard, he replied "aahhh, yes then you are in pain." The next itme we went in he diagnosed is with a "watering of the nose" and told us that the best cure is to rub our noses with coconut oil. I wonder what he'll say next time.
Anyway, I cant' believe I'm leaving so soon...I still have so much work left to do! I'll have to conitinue working with the hospital once I'm in the U.S....plans I've already made with them. Slowly, very, very, incredibly painfully slowly I'm heading in the right direction with them. It's taken 2 months to get my point across (to the right person) about what they need to be doing! So, now I'm working with this person to implement some new things, which will take probably the rest of my life.

And a belated Happy 4th to you, too . . . .
As usual, I just relish reading your posts. I've had to do some catching up, because my computer crashed a week ago today, and once I got it up and running again, I've concentrated on trying to put some of my stuff back on it. I'm glad to know you're doing the TLC bit - doesn't a pedicure just sort of restore everything back to normalcy? Loads of love, Meemaw
coming home
It is getting close to time for you to come home. I too have really enjoyed your log and all of your experiences. I personally am excited about you coming home and hope we will get to see you sometime soon. I miss being able to talk to you whenever I want. I love you. Mom
What an adventure!
I have really been enjoying all of your stories. It is hard to believe that you have been over there for over a month already! The beaches look similar to those that I saw in the carribean. Same beautiful water color that we do not have off the coast of NC. Take care of yourself and enjoy the last few days that you have. This is a trip that you will remember for a lifetime!
Love,
Anna
