Where I stayed
20th April
Sunny 29 degrees
We left the Barossa Valley and headed to the Adelaide Hills. On the way we stopped at the Big Rocking Horse Toy Factory where there is a nice animal farm and a large toy shop. We also stopped at the Melba Chocolate Factory at Woodside where we sampled their products and made a few purchases. We arrived at Hahndorf at lunchtime, a bit early for check in, so went into town through the lovely avenue of Autumn trees and wandered along the main street. Hahndorf was settled by German immigrants in 1839 so a lot of the shops and cafes are German themed and many buildings date back to settlement. We bought some bread and went back to the Hahndorf Resort and checked into our chalet. After lunch we went to visit The Cedars, the historic home and studio of Sir Hans Heyson, famous Australian artist. We joined a tour of the studio and then had a look around the property where there was also a sculpture exhibition. It was a very interesting visit. For the last dinner of our holiday we went to the German Arms Hotel for a yummy snitzel.
