Plovdiv to Nessebar (on the Black Sea)

Sunny 30 degrees

We made our way out of Plovdiv through the city and then along a cobbled road where we saw another stork nest, this time on a church steeple. The drive to Nessebar was fairly easy with some motorways and reasonably wide roads.  The passed huge fields of barley, sunflowers (not yet flowering) and vineyards.  We arrived at Nessebar but found it is only open to residential traffic so had to park the car at a parking station and walk up to our hotel to check in and then to bring the car up.  This was all easier said than done but finally after backing up a narrow road, passing the old lady in the chair twice and asking for directions at the mini-market finally found the hotel again.  All worthwhile as the hotel is luxurious and right in the centre of the old town.  They also upgraded us to a balcony room which overlooks the old John the Baptist church and the ruins of the Royal Palace.  Nessebar as well as being picturesque is Souvenir Central with a variety of shops and cafes lining the pretty streets.  It is located on a small rocky isthmus in the Black Sea , is a UNESCO World Heritage site and dates back to 3000 BC.  We love it here and spent the afternoon wandering about enjoying the town. Later we had dinner on our balcony, accompanied by Bulgarian Beer and Bulgarian Wine, and then went for a walk along the waterside in the cool of the evening.
