Our last couple of days in Madrid we spent looking at Spanish palaces - the main one in Madrid and a summer holiday palace about 50 kms from Madrid at a place called Aranjuez.
The Spanish palaces are made up of extremely elaborate themed rooms with specially chosen decorations, furniture etc. The main palace had frescoes on the ceilings of each room as well.
Each of the palaces had large gardens attached, although we only wandered through the gardens at Aranjuez. It was very peaceful and relaxing, so we stretched out on a bench in a nice courtyard with the sound of a fountain in the background and read for a couple of hours.
