Eager to do a day trip out of Tokyo, we went to Mitake-san, a mountainous region west of Tokyo for some hiking.
Our plan was to do a 5 hour round hike to a place which would give excellent views of Mount Fuji, however, getting to Mitake-san via JR metro took a little longer than we were anticipating - 3-4 hours! It was probably because we took "commuter rapids" the whole way, which stop at every stop and aren't very rapid at all! We also had to change subways three time, catch a bus and then a cable car, with a bit of waiting time in between each.
So instead, we hiked to a little waterfall and took our time exploring the little township with its shrines. There were lovely cedar forests, crisp mountain air and the sound of trickling water.
