Started out from Ko Lipe early in the morning on February 2 with a VERY bumpy ride on a speedboat back to Pak Bara (just because it is called speedboat they should not have to drive as if they needed to prove how fast it can go!! And yes, we are getting old and comfortable =)

The very sweet thai couple that we met in Ko Lipe stood by their promise and drove us to Hat Yai, where we were catching the next bus towards Malaysia. On the way to Hat Yai they took us to a small local restaurant for our last phad thai in Thailand, and it was the best one yet! We were the only two tourists in sight, so now we can say with confidence that we have been off the beaten track.

We arrived to Penang Island in the evening after another few hours on the bus (we're getting used to this by now) and took a taxi to Emmy's cousins holiday flat on the north coast of Penang Island. Very grateful for this lovely accommodation and we actually have one room each, one bathroom each, big kitchen, tv, swimming pool and a washing machine, everything a backpacker needs to feel like they are in heaven!

Since we got here we have not done too much, mainly chilled, gone to the beach and had nice (greek) ice coffee. We also went to a beach a bit further away from the flat yesterday and ran into three very nice dutch people (Pascal, Vim and Ania) that offered us a free boatride with them along the coast. After a nice breezy boatride (where we spotted lots of massive scary jellyfish of about 50 cm in diametre!) we had a few beers and good laughs with them. One indian guy actually came up and serenaded Ania as a bet with his friends, and preformed a rather bad version of 'I know you want me'. He did buy her a beer though to compensate for poor singing! Later on we headed back to our flat for some more chilling. If you have not noticed it already we have adopted a very slow pace of life here =)

Today we have been strolling around Georgetown (the capital of Penang), and tried to take in all the different cultural influences here, mainly Chinese, Indian and English. The heat forced us to retreat to the big shopping mall for a bit (yes, we badly needed some A/C!), which accidentally ended up with some shopping.

We will probably hang around Penang for another few days, and on Monday head down to Kuala Lumpur. Until then, over and out!
