So, after our boat ride up to nearly the Nicaragua border (we had to have our passports with us just in case).... We left La Fortuna by Jeep Boat Jeep the following day.

Jeep Boat Jeep is ineptly named, more like minivan, punt, minivan. Not so impressive but more true.

On the day, It was pouring with rain the entire time during every transfer. One was down a steep hill to the lake where I swore I'd go skidding down, I still don't trust my hip. Thankfully Laura took the front and protected me from myself and my 20kg bag. 

The punt driver took my pack and underestimating its weight went to throw it in the corner and promptly nearly threw it overboard.... his effort was treated with cheers by the punters in the punt and I curtseyed.

Look the Jeep Boat Jeep was a bit of a trial but worth it.. It shaved 8 hours off our roadtrip to Monteverde. We arrived in just 2.5.

 What made it worthwhile, was our our host(eses). Blokes who had brought a whole esky full of beers and promply cracked one for Laura and I. And made passes at all the girls on the boat.... We managed to sink one to their 4. Blokes are blokes the world over eh.

We arrived to Vista Al Golfo just in time for a lie down and to retire for the evening (after a lovely dinner at Amidstad) butwere horrified to find a loud mouth young (guess from where) tourist. Who wanted to play drinking games with each of the other travellers. Laura and I panicked a little thinking we had booked into the wrong hostel all together.

It turns out it was an anomaly and either she wore herself out on the following days, or someone said something to her. We never heard it again. However we now know all the rules of that particular 'card' game, although not particularly complex.

The tour of the Santa Maria forest was awesome. We saw tarantulas they baited out of their nests, errgh, so massive. We also saw sloths, walking sticks (mating with each other), opossum, racoons, mutmut, warbler in its nest, baby scorpions, hercules beetles, click beetles, fireflies and hunting spiders.

Then we got home only to find a sloth outside our balcony totally showing off for the tourists and actually zipping along the phone lines, pretty fast for a sloth.

Laura describes it this way:
"LAURA! SLOTH! LAURA! SLOTH! PUT YOUR SHOES ON! SLOOOOOTH!?!" is what I hear as Sooz comes tearing into our room. We've just paid for a nighttime walk
hoping to glimpse a sloth, which we barely did, only to come back and
have one put on a free show outside the front of our hotel. Whatever,
I'll take what I can get. It was beeeeaaauuutiful!!

Was great, we got front of house position and managed to take some great shots. Mostly they are on Laura's camera so watch her facebook.

Also during our time in Monteverde we:
-  Bought out the stores of Bioland Products, my new favourite organic beauty products
- Did a treatment of said new beauty products on all available skin and hair surfaces
 - I did the bridge walk and Laura Ziplined, apparently you could hear her screams on the 'tarzan swing' from Canada (Laura says it could be possible)
- Bought the magic bean flavouring sauce they use here, 3 bottles each
- Bought Costa Rican cooking books, yummy, to go with the above
- Went back for more bioland products,
- Made friends with all the dogs in town and they followed us around like the packleaders that we are.

Needless to say all this was fabulous but cannot be superceed by the fact that the food at La Amistad Soda (don't even know what that is) right up the road from our hostel, is to die for and legend has it that when you are accepted by the cook you receive a peice of cake.

As it happened, we got cake on our very last day in town.. the cook, Candida, first offered the cake to Laura, but also offered me a peice saying, yes she knew I was allergic to eggs and I couldn't eat it, but had I have been able to, I too would have got cake.  It was a special moment. Laura tells me the cake was dry yet moist and like a swiss roll only finer...

A great time was had by all. On to Liberia
