What I did
Chilled
Cuddled laura
In anticipation of Laura´s arrival, yesterday I got up early and bought all the shopping for our trip .
I was at the airport for Laura´s arrival and of course we hugged and cried and hugged some more. It has been at least 4 years since I´ve seen her in person. We held hands the entire busride to our hotel. (our last trip together was Paris 2007).
I am here as Laura´s guest and support person. Laura´s dad was recently diagnosed with diabetes and so her hike tomorrow up the Rincon de La Vieja volcano is a charity drive to raise money for the Canadian diabetes association. When Lauras beautiful sister could not make it, I immediately volunteered to travel here with her, and its all worked out.... somehow....
We chilled yesterday caught up on all the news, had pinha coladas at the pool and partook of the mud baths, hot springs and steam baths all coming from the volcanic outlets. Awesome. No photos as yet as we´ve discovered Lauras camera chip is not compatible with my computer. Photos to follow.
We´ve been laughing, crying and talking non stop. Enjoying great food, and Laura is resting in anticipation of her volcano climb tomorrow. I´m resting because its a favourite activity. I might also book a hike around the volcano to see the native wildlife. If its not too full on.
The hotel is LUXURY, beyond belief and this is the part of my trip where I get to be the rich princess, so I´m lapping it up. Nice people, great to be talking english again, but the waiters and staff are delighted with my Portuguese. "Its the same language", they say, "you just have a funny accent".... ahahha. So I´m not the only one who thinks so. Some of the other walkers call me over to their tables when they have translation questions, and somehow we all manage to communicate. English is widely spoken here.
Unfortunately the fresh produce here is not as compatible with my stomach as say Cuba (had I have been there) or Brasil, so I think I´m going to have to simplify it a whole lot more. Nothing is sitting well.
Because Ali is not with us, our Canadian friend living in UK, who went home because of illness, we are writing her on skype each day and updating the travels. Its nice to at least have that contact.
I´m going to get back to it, apparently the spa here is to die for. A treatment room with a glass floor over river. WOW.... but please do check out:
