Hello everyone,
So today is cold and raining again. It was bound to happen, as the weekend was sunny and warm. But itīs ok, I have some studying to do today, and I have to cook a traditional Chilean dish for my class tomorrow. I think I am going to ge the nanny Santos to help me becuase I donīt know what I am doing. Anyways, the weekend was nice. Friday I went shopping on calle Valparaiso with my neighbor and her boyfriend. We then went out that evening to a club called Kamakazi. It was fun...they dance so much here!! It was tiring. But I like it becuase we danced to a lot of reggaton and salsa music. All the guys here can dance well, a lot of them even better than the girls. And they all dance better than me, thatīs for sure, but it was fun becuase they were teaching me to salsa. Saturday I just rested at home, and Sunday we watched the game. I wanted Italy to win, so things turned out well for me ;). There were so many people out on the streets afterwards waving the Italian flag and honking their horns. It was fun. We went out that evening to have ice cream and take a walk on the beach. Yesterday my friend Patti and I went to a school to see what they are like, because she is a teacher and wanted to see how the system is here. It was a fairly poor school and things were pretty disorganized, but the kids were so cute. I visited a classroom where they were learning anatomy, so I got to help a little. Since I was there the teacher insisted that they write all their answers in english. It was kind of hard, but they were all so sweet and wanted to learn english. After that we went on a tour of Valparaiso with my class. It was cool, we got to ride on these things called ĻascensorsĻ which are bascially elevators that take you from the top of a hill in the city, to the bottom. They have them all over Valpo, and they are used by a lot of people even though they are really old. It was kind of unstable feeling, but we made it :). Afterwards we went on a boat ride, the boat broke down, we saw some seals playing in the water as the captain tried to fix the boat, and then we made it back an hour later. haha. Once the tour was over me and a few friends hung around in the city for the evening. It was fun and different, but it was a long day. Tomorrow we are going to play soccer again, and hopefully go out at night on Thursday. And this weekend I will either be going to Santiago with Patti or San Pedro with a few other kids in my class. I hope everyone is doing well!! Write to me and tell me how you are :). Oh yeah, and I wanted to send postcards out, but I lost my address book, so if you want one send me your address!! Take care.
Love,
Sonali
