Many visitors to Tikal National Park try to get to there before sunrise so they can climb to the top of a pyramid and watch the sunrise. I'm told it is a very spiritual experience. To me, sleeping past sun up is a very spiritual experience. Our bus from Flores to Tikal is scheduled to arrive at 9:00AM. Well after sunrise. Our bus arrives 1½ hours late. A thirty minute ride to Tikal puts us at the park around eleven. The latest bus we can take back to Flores leaves at 5:00PM, meaning we have a lot of ground to cover and only six hours to cover it in.

The park is 576km². The ruins cover an area of approximately 24km².
