I decided that because I lost so much time in Canada I was going to move right on to London. I took a look at the weather the night before.  Everything looked like it was going to be okay.  I did notice on the forecast that there were supposed to be scattered thunderstorms in London about the time of my arrival.  The ceilings (ceiling means the bottom of the clouds) were high enough to where I could fly under and around them.  I was a little bummed that I was going to be leaving Iceland so soon.  It seemed like a really great place.  You can drive around the whole island in 24 hours.

Iceland is home to where my favorite TV show is filmed, Game Of Thrones. There are only 320,000 people that live on the island in the middle of the Atlantic but it is becoming a very popular tourist destination.  I took off from Keflavik a little late.  On my climb out I encountered a few clouds but quickly got above them.  There was constantly a cloud layer behind me for the entire trip.  My route for my second water crossing was not direct.  I went to London via the Faroe Islands and then south down to the UK.  I had head winds that got weaker and weaker as I got to the Faroe Islands and then they turned into head winds that got stronger and stronger.

I was approaching Scotland and I could start to see the shore.  Boy was I excited to get over land again!  I was wearing my immersion suit and was ready to take it off.  It gave me a rash around my neck from wearing it for the last couple of days.  I actually changed out of my immersion suit and then out of my clothes to get into my flight wear.  I knew I was going to have press meeting me at the airport.

As I started into the London area the weather got much worse.  There was heavy precipitation and isolated thunderstorms in the area.  I thought that the UK might have weather radar that they could use to help me dodge the storms.  I was wrong.  In that area everyone requested deviations from their headings to avoid weather.  I did this as well.  I did a good job avoiding any hazardous weather coming down and the controllers were very helpful.  Boy was that a busy airspace.  If anyone thinks that LA or San Fran is busy it is nothing like London.  I shot an ILS approach into Biggin Hill.  It was very windy and the landing was a tad bit challenging.  When I taxied up to the terminal both of my handlers and the press greeted me.  I put on my baseball cap and got out of the plane.  As soon as I got out, a reporter from Sky News put a microphone in front of my face and started asking questions.  After speaking with the news stations I got a taxi to my hotel.

I was supposed to meet Ray Appleton at a radio studio in London for an on-air interview, which I was very much looking forward to.  Unfortunately because of my snafu in Canada I was arriving a little late.  I was still able to meet with him, but we were not able to do a live interview in the studio.  Instead, Ray and his friend Jo came to my hotel room.  We recorded the whole interview on his phone, which worked quite well.  I enjoyed talking with Ray and Jo.  It was very nice to see a friendly face.

After Ray and Jo left, I went to the bar and had a beer.  It was actually a pretty cool feeling being able to get a beer legally.  I ordered a sandwich and said good night to my girlfriend Eden.  It was a long eventful day and I was ready for some much needed rest.  I was looking forward to the sight seeing I was going to do the next day in London.

I have to presume you made it through Egypt in one piece and hope things went well there.

Dubai as you are likely finding is somewhat of an Oasis albeit with a price. My last trip there about three years ago was excellent and what a comparative contrast from the previous trip in 1956 when it still appeared as an ancient Arab trading port. Hope you have a bit of time to poke about Bombay (Mumbai)." Slumdog Millionaire" if you saw it, hit pretty close to reality.

Fly safe stay safe adventurer.
