Merry Christmas from Denmark!

Hi everyone, well it's christmas time in Denmark. Christmas here starts at the first of december with advent calendars and candle advent calenders, christmas lights and decorations, and lots of parties. My first host family started off the season at the end of november with a 4th sunday before christmas dinner. Christmas is one of the biggest holidays in Denmark and they have a lot of special christmas foods and drinks, ive been trying different christmas foods for weeks now. I think my favorite so far though is ęblerskiver and glogg (pronounced glook) ęblerskiver is pancake batter cooked into round balls and glogg is a warm drink made with red or white wine with spices and raisans and pieces of almond in it. Christmas is so much fun here, and its great learning about all their holiday traditions. I can't believe that it's december already, it seems like just yesterday was thanksgiving and not to long ago i was getting off the plane in copenhagen. Its been an amazing four months though. Thanksgiving was really great, me and two other exchange students decided to do a traditional thanksgiving dinner for our host families and counselors, it ended up being for 22 people, but we pulled it off so it was really great! Most of them had never even tried pumpking pie! It was a big hit. We had a lot of fun doing everything but it certainly was a challenge. Now its only two weeks until christmas day, they open presents and do all their whole christmas on the 24th here, i really thought that by the time christmas came i would have been in Denmark forever, but the time has flown by. It seems like ive been busy since October! Theres always some exciting new thing to do! And i have friends to hang out with, and language classes, and rotary meetings to go to, not to mention school and i never seem to have a spare moment! I love it! I have already been living with my second host family for two weeks now, and it doesn't seem nearly so long. Its been interesting integrating into an entirely new family, but its definitly easier than the first time. I guess its good when you kind of know what to expect, so everythings gone smoothly so far. I really like them. They are very active people so i go running with my host mom, and sometimes i play soccer with my host dad, i have a host brother too who is 17, but he goes to sports school to play soccer so he doesn't live at home. We get along really well though so it is fun. Its really interesting being the only kid in the house though, because i have always had brothers and sisters living with me. Its fun and i get to hang out with my host parents a lot, which is really nice. Anyways, so long for now, and a very merry christmas to you all!

Christmas 2007
Dear Soleil We love hearing about your Denmark Christmas festivities. I've made a lot of abelskivers for the family. Yum! Bill, Josh,Amma and Jazz came to an early Christmas party on Sunday. We had a good time, but missed you. I let your Dad have your Christmas stocking goodies this year, since he forgot to bring his stocking. We are very cold today in Medford, 27 degrees. The Christmas lights are beautiful all around the town. Glad you have such a good experience. We love you, Grandma and Granpa
