I went out to dinner with my graduate student mentor. We decided to check out Basil, a nice Mediterranean restaurant, because I am deprived of opportunities to eat out here. The other interns in my program buy 2 weeks worth of groceries and cook/bake/microwave every night. I have only gone to the one Korean restaurant in Charlottesville once because I have no friends to go with me. There's also a tea/hookah place downtown called Tea Bazaar that I really want to go to, but again, nobody willing to spend the money. I will just have to take a book there and puff on the hookah alone one of these days...
Anyway, Basil is a small restaurant on The Corner with wooden tables and plain decor... The Italian menu was simple enough with a good selection of insalata and panini. But the drink menu, ohhh man. It was like an encyclopedia of imported beers- Belgian, German, Austrian, Australian... even Efes Pilsen, the Turkish beer! So that's what I had, a cold bottle of Efes with a salmon salad and quality conversations on the side.
The highlight of my summer in Charlottesville, seriously.
