We drove directly to a well known kite spot call Guincho beach, where apparently the wind always blows. It wasn't blowing as much as we hoped, but the waves certainly were rolling. It was intimidating getting through the break, Jon got out a couple times, but the wind wasn't enough. I chickened out. We had some good fun on our hardcore boogie boards though. =)
Although the Guincho beach was very impressive, we will forever remember Cascais as the place where we almost died. Yes, for real. The breaks on our little Renault Clio failed as we were driving along the coast, Jon had to swerve onto oncoming traffic to avoid smashing in the stopped cars in our lane, then swerve again onto the sidewalk to avoid a head on collision with a truck. I was yelling at him to stop because I had no idea why he was driving like a lunatic, that’s when he yelled the breaks weren't working and I yanked on the handbrake. We finally skidded to a stop on a bike path, thank god no one was hurt, but our car was definitely no longer drivable. The whole thing was shocking... good thing Hertz compensated us with a smaller and crapier car.
