Established in 1769, St. Charles is the oldest city on the Missouri River. St. Charles is Missouri's oldest State Capitol. St. Charles’ Main Street region is Missouri’s first and largest historic district. The brick-paved streets of Historic Main Street are home to unique shops, restaurants, wineries, businesses, private residences and historical attractions. Historical sites include the beginning of Lewis and Clark’s westward expedition, home of frontiersman, Daniel Boone, and Katy Trail State Park.
