Asalam Malekum

Im still in Senegal.  And some days its still hits me and I say "wow Im in Africa" this usually happens in the mornings when I wake up sweating because it is just so hot out;  You can imagine that this does not lend itself to getting very much sleep and I think I will be getting a fan since I do have electricy and why fight the fact that yes I dint want electricity but now that I have it it would seem weird to my family if I didnt use it.  So Im going to get a fan and Im really excited also the whir or the fan will drown out the sound of the crickets in my shower and the scurrying cochroaches the size of small kittens running around my room at night, also the various other creatures of notable size who may happen to be active as well.

So as you can probably tell its really hot and then when its compounded by the fact that we have sand storms!  Oh my myž  So picture this I'm sleeping outside witht he family where its cool and the stars are usually out, then we are all rudely awakened to blowing winds and with it dancing sand that gets in our faces, mouths and eyes.  We all dash inside to our hot sauna-like rooms.  I know I will not sleep, so I barr all the windows so the sand cant come in in full force and I strip down completely and take multipul bucket baths to help cool off.  I pull out some modern technology an MP3 player and I relish the music the blowing winds like hurricane and the coolness of not drying myself off and using the hand held fan to bring a breeze.  Also I'm texting my other friends in the area and we're joking about how nice the wheather is as if we might all meet up the club and tee up.  It actually was a rather amussing night and in the morning we were all covered in sand and the day was speant sweeping ALL DAY LONG.
Ok soo Wolof speaking how is it going?  Crazy how the days vary from awesome wolof talking and joking to my mind is completely dead tired and I cant even talk to myself in English.  Its a rocking rollarcoaster this learning a new language shot gun style and I'll be honest, Wolof aint the prettiest language lots of "beggas" and "lacks"
Also Im eating Cebe u Jen EVERYDAY, and I like it becuase I can now taste the difference from day to day from household to household, the part thats tough is that I eat lunch at two and then not again until 9:00 and its usually not that good because there are no veggies and its lots of rice or millet and a sauce usually made with oil and maybe peanuts if Im lucky?*;
Ok but so for the most part I am good I like my family and Im meeting lots of people in my vilallage which makes it killer for remembering names and they like to quiz me often.  Ive got lots of ideas and will tell you about them as they come to fruision because I know Im gonna need your help friends and family;  Ok my brothers are looking over my shoulder asking if Im done yet and so I must go;  love Desneige

Hi Sweetie
I like your blogs and your trials and tribulations. I know it's not easy there but I can also sense your excitement. Have you received any packages so far? Don't know how long it takes.

Summer is here and it's been quiet and peaceful. Am looking forward to the 4th of July.

Wonder if your brother is going to start a log for the summer?!

Love you honey,
kisses

Desneige!
I love hearing your accounts and experiences. What a trip. I am thinking of you often and wondering how are are faring. I know your positive attitude and happy love of life is going to help you on this journey. Which is a good thing, considering the cockroaches are kitten-sized. My arm hair just stood up on end.
I miss you and love you and am glad you are well.

much love
Sigrid
