Hello everyone. So I can't believe that I've been here only two weeks because it feels like two months. I have had my ups and downs but for the most part I consider myself so lucky to have the awesome homestay family that I have because they just make me so happy and comfortable here.
Right now I am busy training to be a Peace Corps volunteer which means I'm busy learning all about Senegal's culture both in the classroom and living it with my family; learning the local language of Wolof; learning how to stay healthy and safe and getting to know my fellow peace corps trainees who will be my support network these next two years. I think its the people who can make or break an experience and so far its been incredible.
Eating food with my right hand and squating in turkish toilets to go to the bathroom has been interesting.  At every meal the family shares a big bowl of food and we sit on the floor together and eat.  The food is very good on most occasions;  bucket baths every night and the sound of Muslim chanting and praying to lull me to sleep at 10:00pm and wake me up again at 5:30am. Sand is everywhere and so is trash. The clothing is beautiful and I love the colors and patterns so much. I had my first outfit made with the help of my family and it is beautiful complete with a matching head wrap. I will send a picture of me soon once I find a computer with a USB cable input.
I'm looking forward to my next two years here and please send letters. Mail is a wonderful thing.
If you want to send a care package here are some items of importance: hand sanitizer; Emergen-C packets to hide the taste of bleach I have to clean my drinking water with. gardening gloves. power bars; dried fruit: and pens and anything that you think would make me smile.

You're a long time ngone!
Boy you missed over a foot of snow after you left. A nice Easter present. I found a picture in the paper that looks like you in the snow, will send it to you--maybe it will help you stay cool. We just figured out to day how to find your blog after your friends at the CO-OP told us they'd seen a new posting. There are more people on your site than can figure how to send you a note this way (I include your mother who tried but finally got up and went to bed!)
Love you. Dad
