My holidays officially started on Friday 19/02 but we were all packed and both itching to head off so we decided to leave on Thursday afternoon after work, and ride for a couple of hours to make the Sydney run a little shorter for the following day. The trailer towed well and we had a bit of afternoon wind but nothing too bad.  The first fuel stop was at Kempsey and then we continued to Telegraph Point – got a great meal at the local pub.  We had decided to stay at places with beds for the first few nights, while the muscles get used to the riding routine, so we checked into a holiday park cabin for the night.  Not such a great idea – it was an expensive bed and very noisy so we didn't get much sleep.  Lesson learnt… next time try the pub…

We left Telegraph Point at 7am and the sun was shining so we expected a beautiful sunny day.  We were wrong - at Kew we stopped to change from the lightweight summer jackets that we were wearing into our warm waterproof jackets.  We both decided against the wet weather pants as the rain was scattered and not very heavy.  Ahhh riding in the rain gives you that feeling that nothing else can… water running down the jacket soaking into your jeans and settling in the crotch area, wet denim sticking to your legs, and socks squelching in the boots when you stop for fuel. Lesson learnt… summer leather gloves are not meant to be worn in the rain – the colour runs and stains your hands.

Some people complain about highway riding but we enjoyed the ride.  Lesson Learnt… while 'being in the groove’ is a good thing for music, it’s not so good for riding, especially when you are riding near Newcastle.

If all lessons were this much fun, more people would be willing to study.  Bad beds, wet weather and groovy roads - it’s all part of the adventure and it’s all good :-).  We arrived at Carole’s in Campbelltown and changed into dry clothes and will spend the night catching up with gossip from family/friends.
