Arun and I went on his motor scooter through the streets of Varanasi. You might reason that after this much time I would be getting used to things but it is simply not so. I am constantly amazed. The inside world of hotel rooms and peoples houses is one thing, but as soon as you go out in the street it is another world. the distinction in the US between these two things is on an order of magnitude less than here. In your hotel room you are watching HBO then you walk out the door and a cow is standing as if asleep in the middle of a swarm of traffic the composition of which boggles the mind.

so you remain boggled.

We couldn't find the physical therapy clinic we were looking for and so went to visit some doctor friends of his. A husband and wife. One in ENT and the other a community doctor. We had a wonderful talk that started in physical therapy (apparently there is no licensing here for PT's) and covered many different things including the contrasting of ayurvedic medicine and allopathic medicine, the unity of religious thought, differences between Indian and American doctors and the Bhagavad Gita. I loved it.

Afterward I came to this cybercafe to send some more photos.
