Wow, wow, wow.

I have just returned from a 4 day tour into Bolivia from Chile. It was not something I had planned to do, in fact I hadnīt even considered Bolivia before my travels. But so many people have spoken about it since I have been here though, and this short trip had been recommended to me a number of times, so I went for it.

Man am I glad I did, the trip was really about landscapes, visited in a 4x4 jeep, the pinnacle of which would be the Salar de Uyuni, a huge pure white salt flat.

Along the way we visited some beautiful places: bright blue, white and red lagunas; changing mountain ranges, bubbling geysers and thermal springs. I have seen Llamas, Vicuņas and Flamingoes, and all at over 4,000 metres.

The second night of the trip we actually stayed in a hotel made entirely of salt - bricks, tables, chairs and beds...thankfully not the cutlery though.

I say all this in advance because I wanīt to leave the Salar until last. We got up at 5am in order to drive out in the dark and arrive on the flats at sunrise. My God, was the whole trip cold, but when you are stood out there in the middle of this huge expanse of just white and the sun breaks over the distant mountains, creating shadows 100 metres long, it suddenly seems so worth it.
