I was a bit worried when I arrived into the airport in Lima. I soon found out that they have an unusual and kind of unnerving customs system in place - before you can leave everybody has to queue up and press a button, which then much like the Harry Potter hat decides where you are to go - Green and you´re fine, Red and you´re getting searched. Now this wouldn´t usually bother me, but on the customs form I had just signed I had declared that I was bringing in no more than one camera and 5 films. Ha (I didn´t want to know the fee for 100). That was a nervous few minutes I can tell you, but thankfully the green light shone upon me and I was off.
Well thankfully it seems my worries about the capital cities having it in for me have been put aside as my time here seemed to go fairly smoothly
Day 2 saw me heading into the centre. My God is this place noisy and fume ridden, it doesn´t take long for the headache to come a knocking. There are some really interesting places to see though. I´m not one for going and looking round churches and museums usually, but it is turning into the main source of intrigue and a background on these new places. The Cathedral here was very impressive, but the more unusual one was the Iglesia de Santa Domingo, I´ll let you look at then pics for why
On our last night (I say ´our´ because I met a couple of young American pilots here who I am moving on to Cusco with) the owner of the hostel, a really friendly and welcoming, big-bellied Peruvian guy, invited us to celebrate with him the 2 year anniversary of his hostel being open. Thus...crack open that Pisco!! This time it went down much better though, the original liquor mixed with Coke and a squeeze of lime. We should be able to get this stuff at home.
Typical, this isn´t turning out to be short at all. I just have to say that it turned out to be a double celebration personally, I managed to download our second to last film and see what Tim had done with it. Well congratulations dude, you made my night; and if anybody wants to see it, click here 3 Degrees
