Since I was only here one night before flying up to Lima, I donīt have a huge amount to say, but felt the nightīs celebrations at least worthy of a mention.

Having been on Easter Island for Good Friday, I arrived on the saturday to Santiago. In the evening this obviously meant the cross-over in Easter Sunday. I wondered when I arrived if something might be going on, as since I had been gone a huge stage had been erected near to where I was staying.

Sure enough at midnight the celebrations kicked off, with the Priest up on stage getting the crowd going. This was fascinating simply because it is so different from back home, where religion seems to be losing favour somewhat. Up on stage here, the Priest was like a member of a rock band, having the crowd shouting and singing at his every whim.

At one point small candles were distributed amongst the crowd and the lights turned down so they really stood out. This is what the above picture is attempting to show, though not very well. An impressive spectacle.

Oh, incidentally, I also got my camera battery back. Tim had seen it and kept hold of it. You canīt imagine how happy this simple thing made me!
