Today was the big day! I finally got to get a close up view of the college that I selected to be my place of learning for the upcoming couple of years.

My mom and I woke up bright and early for our 9 a.m. tour, and when we awoke, we were greeted with a familiar friend, rain! And lots of rain at that! But the precipitation would not dampen my spirits as I marched on up to the Fidel Center (student center area) and got my tour itinerary! First up I met with a professor from the EES program of Tech. EES stands for Earth and Environmental Science, which has multiple branches, including hydrology! Dr. Harrison was very helpful, friendly, and seemed excited to meet me, and show me around the department. After chatting with him for about an hour, we, and another mother-daughter duo  got a tour of the dorms. Most of which, are what one would expect from college dorms. From here we talked with some people from the financial aid office and admissions office to just learn a bit more about some of the finite details of the college process. Then we met up with the mother-daughter combo again and got a tour of the entire campus. The whole school is designed with a fun Southwestern style and is very well manicured. And although it was raining the entire time, I still enjoyed walking around the school and imagining what life will be like when I official become a "techie"!

After the tour we had lunch at the campus along with the girl and her mother who were also visiting. They were from Santa Fe and seemed quite nice! The girl, Anne was her name I believe, was looking at going into Physics, Chemistry, or Astronomy, and although I definitely enjoyed talking to her, the odds are she will not be attending Tech due to the fact she had 7 other schools on her list of "maybes"!

After our lunch, my mom and I got into our rental car and drove west towards Arizona. We did not know how far we would get today so we had no hotel reservations, which seemed to be an okay strategy seeing we had no trouble finding any in the town of Holbrook. Once we arrived in Holbrook, we realized how close we were to the Petrified Forest National Park, and decided to head in that direction, as we did make good time, arriving to Holbrook, much sooner than anticipated. When we got to the park entrance it seemed like our best bet would be to return tomorrow morning before heading west toward the Grand Canyon.

So we called it a day in Holbrook and will be having another big day of travel coming up tomorrow!
