We arrived in Nelson to alternative routes and lots of traffic after the flooding and land slides, although not much was evident but brown roads and washed out banks.  The mop operation was well underway.

Heading north along the coast PK headed us for Kaiteriteri Beach, which seemed to the holiday destination of choice for the South Islanders and we could see why with the amazing white beaches and clear sea.  A walk on the beach saw us til lunch and then it was back in the van to go exploring.

About an hour of hairpins and travelling up over the Tasmin Hills saw us looking down onto an enormous sink hole which was full of farms and fertile land.  As we dropped down and headed towards the sea we saw much more evidence of the rains.  There were areas here still without power after a week.  Still the cows were happy to see us (ish) as we stopped for photo next to a sign which said 'Welcome to Clifton'!!

The next we started our final trek back to Picton and our ferry home.  Taking the scenic route gave us the amazing opportunity to see the northern fjords.  The land is so steep and the waters so blue.  We'd soon be back on the boat and steaming through them.

In the meantime we had one last opportunity to taste south islands ice cream in a shop with every option you can imagine.  Strangely we lingered here for a while!

Then it was on the boat and heading for home.  Watch Kung Fu Panda 2 on the way - wicked you got to see it - way better than number 1.
