Raffles Long Bar

Continuing our sleep catch-up we arose to meet the day with a sun burning through the cloud, out first peak since landing on this side of the world. I know crazy... England you are blessed this year with a sunnier disposition...

We headed out for three major attractions – Sim Lim Square Technology Mall (5 floors of a boys dream!), Raffles Hotel and the Pandang Cricket Ground.

On the way we stopped in Little India to soak up the herbs and spices (everywhere in this city smells of food – yum).

Sim Lim Square Mall was a techies dream.  Liz got bored pretty quick and found the biggest telly she could find to be confronted with the A-Team all guns blazing (hey Sharlto!), the sales assistant tried hard but failed to sell the TV to this particular back-packer... better luck next time!

Memory sticks in hand, Raffles was but a subway stop away.  We popped into the museum for a look around and a crafty picture later managed to get this for a 'before and after' comparison of ‘Boat Key’ (the historical on is circa 1910).  Changed a bit...

The Raffles Long Bar was real blast from the movies.  I could just see men in tropical white suits and ladies in large brimmed hats lounging in the bar.  But not to day, as its all tourists popping in for a Singapore Sling including us... lovely.

A couple of blocks away was the cricket ground, which is right next to city hall, slap dab in the middle of the city.  Unfortunately it was the off-season so the ground was occupied with a temporary rugby stadium so photo doesn’t really capture the contrast between new and old.  I felt sorry for the rugby players as it was 25oC at 75% humidity and then the sun came out... ouch.

On the way to Cairns now (North East Australia), so more news later, after  we wait for the delayed flight, hope it not too long.
