Where I stayed
Alidhem - Historiegrand
I am safely in Sweden, and I do believe that trip was one of the loneliest things I have ever done - especially because when I arrived in Sweden, I was all by myself AND everyone was speaking in Swedish. Kind of refreshing though - it's easier to relax when you're not listening to everyones conversation. I almost missed my flight to Umea, I had misread the gate number! But luckily I made it.
Everyone here thinks I am already European, because they keep talking to me in Swedish/German/French - which I will take as a huge compliment, as compared to when I was in Greece, they automatically spoke to me in English. The little bit of Swedish/French I do know, they are very impressed, they say my accent is very good, which also makes me happy, since it is one of the main things I focus on when learning a new language.
My bad decision for the day - traveling in my pajamas with no make up. I forgot how gorgeous the people of this country are! Very well put together and model-ish looking. Not all of them are blond hair, blue eyed, but a great majority of them are. Glad to be here and up the brunette percentage.
As soon as I arrived in Historiegrand (our building complex) a student approached me and asked me if I needed help (I was carrying 4 bags!). His name is Lionel, and he is a student from Congo studying computers here at the Uni. but he would ultimately like to return to Congo and work in Politics to help his people. He did not speak very good English, but was fluent in Swedish and French - I was able to use a bit of my French to communicate as well. My new friend does not understand my hair color; "Are you blond, or brunette?" He had just shaved his head before I got there -- he had dreadlocks! He said he likes to switch his hairstyle frequently, he enjoys change.
My room is very, very nice - I have my own mail slot - and I'm right across from the TV/game room and our student kitchen. My little room kitchenette is so cute - there is a sink, a little Bunsen burner stove, and a little fridge with shelves and drawers. My bed is also very nice - the mattress made with that memory foam! Despite my lack of pillow, I fell asleep very quickly. Also could be from the fact that I didn't sleep for 2 days straight. Either or.
Tomorrow I will go exploring, I want to actually see my university, haha. Everything here is SO green, it's seriously just a country full of trees with places cut out for roads and buildings. It's the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. I'll try to get some pictures of that.
