After another long drive from the Canyon and we finally reached Las Vegas. We passed over the Hoover dam which was really busy but I think it will help when the new bridge is completed. (pic attached for anyone who has been and wants to see the new bridge being built)

So Vegas, I had a fantastic time in Vegas with Sharon and I knew Steve was going to love it but did worry about his fondness of fruit machines and wondered if I would see him over the next few days. As we walked in to the casino I saw Steve's eyes open like when Liverpool scored the third goal in Istanbul, full of excitement and hope that we could win big. We stayed the first night in the Stratosphere, partly because we had arrived a day early and it was cheaper than the already booked Luxor and partly as I hadn’t seen this end of the strip last time I had been so wanted to see what it had to offer.

We only booked a low floor as I knew Steve wasn’t keen on heights but with the pool on the 40th floor he had to face his fears. This wasn’t too bad but we when we went to top of the stratosphere in the evening I realised just how scared of heights my husband is. I had to tempt him out of the lift with the promise of beer and he would not look over the edge, to be fair it is about floor 106 and a very long way up so we didn’t stay too long.

At the first bar we practised our black jack on the machines at the bar and won our first $4. Whoo hooo Easy this gambling milakee or so we thought. We then lost $60 on a game called let it ride. I have now decided that was due to a machine dealing the cards and not the dealer and all future tables were selected provided the dealer dealt the cards rather than a card machine.

Steve had a go on some of the slots. Off course being the Jedi he thinks he is, the Star Wars was his first choice but with his Jedi powers failing him we headed back empty handed.

The following day we both said a very happy goodbye to the rubbish motorised contraption Alamo had given us and moved to the Luxor. We braved the streets in the 40 degree heat to have a look at the Venetian, Paris, Circus Circus, MGM and New York New York before we gave up on the sightseeing and headed for the pool.

Heading out in the slightly cooler evening we intended to try out a few other casinos but didn’t get too far.  We fell across a bar in the hotel next door (Excalibur) who had a great band where we settled for a bit and then we found beer pong in the same hotel and we were settled for the night. Anyone who has been to Vegas will know that the Excalibur and the Luxor at joined by moving walkways so at least the stumble home didn’t take too long!! !

With a few games of beer pong completed, me losing and about to explode from all the beer we checked my exam results. Great news, a pass and I have my diploma. After making a few relived/excited phone calls we headed back to the bar to celebrate and build up the courage to try some blackjack. At 2am we sat down for our first game of back jack and were grateful to the help of another player guiding us on a few hands especially with the free drinks we had.  We had watched the training program in the room but the tables are so much quicker and you have to think quickly especially when there are a few other players on the table. At 3:30am, quite drunk and $200 up Steve dragged me off the tables. He says he knows when to walk away and I think he might be right. Anyway, I know I liked the moving walkways that night even in flat shoes. Steve decided he was going to practise for Hawaii and tried to surf the handrails home!!!

Next day was spent by the pool but we did make it a little further in the evening. A walk through the huge MGM and a trip on the monorail, we just caught the pirates at Treasure Island and the dancing water at the Bellagio (you have to see it to understand or the end of watch Oceans 11 where it features).  We avoided the clicker men (men on the streets giving out leaflets for 'girls in your room’ even though you’re walking hand in hand with your wife) and returned to the Excalibur for another round of beer pong. We beat some crazy Americans which made Steve very happy as he could claim the US Beer Pong Championship having lost his European title on the stag do. We won another $300 dollars and banked the money for the rest of our trip.

A great time in Vegas, could maybe have done a bit longer but I guess that’s Vegas, you always want to stay just a little longer
