Today was really hot. It was so hot it gave me a headache... or maybe that was because I tightened my helmet down too much. I walked out of the hotel in shorts and my jersey and wasn't the least bit chilly for the first time the entire trip. I remember walking outside in Truckee, California only a few weeks ago and freezing in my jacket with all my appendage warmers on.
The last few days I've been pouring icy water over my head, back and legs in order to keep cool. Even pouring warm water on my shorts gets my legs wet enough for them to cool down in the wind that I create while riding.

We made it to McPherson by noon today since it was a short day and we got an early start. We went to our second and last Braum's of the trip and Scott had a better experience than he did yesterday. Braum's was talked up by the ride leaders as a great milk shake and burger place so when we rode into Great Bend yesterday we decided to have lunch there. Scott ordered a bacon cheeseburger, chocolate shake and fries. When bringing the tray to the table he fumbled a bit and spilled his shake right onto the bench where he was going to sit. While a nice but terribly inefficient girl cleaned up his spill his burger got cold. Scott loves his food more than anyone I know so losing half his shake and having his food go cold was a double whammy that put him in a pretty foul mood. To make matters worse, his cold burger had surprise mayonnaise and his french fries were hiding a big black curly hair. Needless to say he was pissed. Today things went better, although he got a chicken sandwich with no french fries. I had two of the best milkshakes ever. Yesterday the woman behind me in line recommended the mint chocolate chip milkshake and it was unbelievably good. Today I got adventurous and looked around in the freezer until I could find an ice cream that would make an incredible shake I've never had before. I settled on strawberry chocolate chip and it was unreal. I could drink a strawberry chocolate chip milkshake every day until the day I die.

Since we got in so early we've had a lot of down time today. I like the bike riding aspect but I also really like the down time... go figure. It's fun just hanging out in different places with my dad and brother trying to find ways to have fun. Yesterday Scott and I played our invented frisbee game and is was awesome. Today we were treated to an outdoor pool, where, despite my efforts to the contrary, I got roasted. I asked Scott if my back looked red... he told me no. Then I came inside and looked in the mirror. I look like a hot tamale. Thanks Scott.

My dearest Stephen... thank you so much for these blog entries. I knew you were headed out on this trip because you so quickly responded to my email that I sent you near spring break time... however, Scott just forwarded your blog contact to me today. So, I have read your entries today and I love them... Yes it is pleasant to read positive things, but I find it best to read honest and creative descriptions. Creative descriptions seem to be your forte! What a journey you all have been on... in the fullest sense of the word journey! I'll keep reading! Love you all very much! Cat
