The following is my last 6 days, organized by day. Enjoy!

Saturday - I helped the Shavers prepare for a going away party we had at the house. Lots of people showed up to say goodbye to Mike Burtnett, who came down a few months ago to be the Youth Pastor for the missionary kids, and recently found out that his application for a resident visa was denied. He's heartbroken, and he has to move his family back to Orlando since they won't be able to live here and pursue their dream.

Sunday - I skipped church to go out to a village with Dave, Donna and their friend Sharon who came to visit from New Mexico. Sharon's been here over a week now, and it's been really great having her here. (Rumor on the street is she's 70 years old, but she's got the spunk of a 40 year old.) We went to a village well know for their painted wood carvings. I was amazed by the detail and the price of the artwork. check some of the pics for more details.

Monday - I went with AT to Mike's house to paint the kids' bedrooms back to neutral colors. Mike and his wife had painted their boys' room to look like Jacob's Field in Cleveland, and they had painted their girl's room with rolling hills and lots of bright flowers. Since they have to move back to the States, they have to have the rooms painted back to a neutral color for the next renter. AT and I volunteered to go over and do it, so he could focus on getting other things ready for the move.

(auxiliary paragraph: On monday, I went upstairs in Mike's house to the utility sink so we could clean the primer out of the paint rollers. Well... the sink didn't have a drain in the same tub as the nozzle, so we had to fill a bucket from a separate nozzle on the wall near the stairs and then dump the bucket down a different drain. Well, Mike tried to balance the bucket between the edge of the sink and his thigh, and needless to say, once the bucket got full enough of water, it slipped off the edge of the sink, and crashed to the ground, sending at least 4 gallons of white primer/water all over the floor, utility room, stair case, and courtyard/washing machine below the stairs. (I actually spent 90% of my time on monday cleaning up that mess.)

Tuesday - Went back for the third and fourth coats in the bedrooms (the paint was so bright and the paint job was so contrasty, that it required four coats!). AT and I had some great discussion about prayer and brokenness. We then caught a few busses to get back to the house, and in between busses, we stopped at another delicious restaurant called Natural.

Wednesday - Woke up to someone honking outside. AT, who was up already, walked over to the window, then looked at me and told me to get up because we had to move (mike's) fridge, washer, and dryer out of a truck and into the house. I crawled out of bed, and within five minutes of waking up, was carrying a full size fridge into the house. Then, only 20 minutes after being awake, the guy with the truck needed me or AT to go with him back to Mike's house, so he could put a king size mattress in his truck... I offered to go, but then he said I would need to find my own way back home (and since I don't speak spanish, and don't know the bus routes, both taxi and bus were non-options.) I decided to go anyways, and when we were done loading the mattress, dresser (full of clothes), and various other furniture into the truck, I walked over to the School, so I could catch a ride home with Dave when the school day was over. I got to the school about 10:30 AM, and spent the next few hours working on fixing the computer in the 1st and 2nd grade classroom. After I got that issue resolved, I went to the library to check my facebook, and literally 10 minutes after I sat down, the 3rd and 4th grade teacher asked me if I'd teach gym class for her kids. I did, and it was rough.

Thursday - As I was laying in bed, checking my facebook, AT asked if I wanted to hike the mountain today, since we didn't have any plans. I consented, and in 30 minutes we were on a bus headed up to a trail head neither of us had ever seen before. It was a crazy adventure, that was completely exhausted. Various highlights included climbing about 5000 ft (up to 10000 ft), doing probably 8 to 10 miles in six hours, experiencing God's indescribable majesty, creativity, and raw power in an incredible new way, more interesting discussion with AT, walking through a creek and stepping in mud and sinking a foot and a half down, getting lost in the brush with no trail and no hiking partner, appearing in at least a half dozen random fields looking for the trail, taking incredible pictures, encountering two bulls in our path and seeing all of Oaxaca from an arial perspective.

What's next?
Saturday: Jr - Sr Valentines Day Dinner fund-raiser event at our house.
Tuesday - Saturday: AT and I are going to Mexico City to explore.
March 3rd - 10th: I'll be a camp counselor for middle school guys.

Stephen

Note: 2/12/09 - I don't have pictures up yet, because I need to sleep, but I'll be getting them up tomorrow.
