A lovely sunny morning saw us getting stuck into some laundry then we explored the local area and took a drive to the nearby village of Urunga where we had a walk out on the very long boardwalk that connects the village to the beach and along the mangroves.
A cloudy day so Morgan was persuaded that conditions were ideal for a trip to visit the village of Bellingen which is known for its historical street scapes, pretty setting on the river, cafes and craft shops (you can imagine the enthusiasm…..) anyway he was convinced that to go on Saturday which was a market day would be much worse so off we went! In the afternoon Morgan did a spot of fishing back at Mylestom but unfortunately the fluorescent lure things were not fooling any fish with half a brain so it was bbq sausages for dinner.
By this stage in the trip we have got through all the decent bottled wine we had bought from our cupboards in Canberra and from the trip to Mudgee so we are truly 'on the road' as we are on to the cask wine (some isn’t too bad to be fair) for weight, space and money saving reasons (sob).
Our luck has really changed with the weather and having poured rain all last night it rained most of the day; really quite miserable. But at least the tent didn’t leak so thus far we remain dry. We decided to dodge the showers and take a short walk through some coastal rainforest in the Booti Booti National Park a short drive away – wrong choice - should have known better because in Australia rain + rainforest = leeches. YUCK. Thankfully it was only 3k and we were at the end of the walk and took the beach route back to the car. Then we did a bit of aimless driving around and had the traditional rainy day sandwich lunch sitting in the car looking out at the sea at Coffs Harbour. Rain looks to be set for a while on this part of the coast so thankfully we will be in some bricks and mortar accommodation at our next stop - Lismore!
