Dear readers,

Well the job hunt isn't going so well and it probably won't for a while either. While it's great here and all, no shops/cafeterias are looking for staff! One place was interested, but they let me do a trial and it didn't go so well, they never called me back! So now I've decided to do an RSA course (Responsible Service of Alcohol), which you need to have done to be allowed to work at bars and restaurants. Costs a bit of money, but a good investment! But even though I now have my RSA (they haven't sent my certificate yet though... >:| ), I don't think I'll be getting a job here after all:

Yesterday evening I went on another pub crawl and it was great fun! We were in a small group from the YHA and we really had a good time. I was a bit stupid to wear my high heels though, as by the end of the evening, my feet were killing me and I decided to walk on bare foot. After a while, the others wanted to leave, but one guy from the group and me decided to stay a little longer. Not long afterwards, we also left, taking a nightbus and then having to walk 20 minutes. My feet were still killing me as I kept to the grass. The guy I was with then offered to take me on his back, and foolish as I am (and a little tipsy I guess), I let him carry me for a while.. until he fell unto the pavement. His face was all bleeding and although I couldn't see my face, I knew mine was too and we both were in terrible pain. We decided to just keep on walking untill we got to the YHA and all the way we were discussing whose fault it was.. I was in rather a shock after the fall and only then did I really notice that the guy I was with had had a bit too much to drink. When we got to the YHA, we went to the seperate bathrooms to clean ourselves up, and oh my face was a mess! My right cheek was all covered in blood as I had a wound a little below my eye, on the cheekbone.
Luckily a Dutch girl walked into the girls bathrooms and discovered my wound, and she gave me some dettol so I could clean it properly. I was really more concerned about the guy who had a much worse wound and I asked the girl, who had collected some other girls as well. to go check on him.. this was when they found him, locked in the toilets, bleeding heavily and having passed out and vomited. The ambulance was called and I explained the whole drama to the kind paramedics, who took the both of us to the Gold Coast Hospital in Southport.

My wound was nowhere near as bad as the guys, but the doctors wanted to have a CT scan on the both of us, just in case I had broken my cheekbone. The guy I was with had a huge gap in his forehead, and they took a breathaliser and blood test from him, and worked on his gaping wound, after that he just simply fell asleep. His friend, who he was travelling with, went straight to the hospital and after a bit of a chat with him, we also fell asleep in our chairs. The next morning I was woken up to have a CT scan and the doctors were discussing what to do with the guys wound, deciding to transfer him over to the plastics', as he would definately be needing surgery. They discovered from his CT scan that he had no fractions in his skull or neck, and after several hours of waiting, both our wounds got cleaned up. Mine being like a gravel rash, they needed to clean my wound thoroughly and they put me on laughing gas to ease the pain a little. Honestly, the laughing gas was the best part of this whole adventure. After that they put on antibiotic cream and told me to put it on the wound twice a day. I had to wait for my CT results - which took ages - and in the meantime the guy I was with was going through some questioning etc so he could be transferred to the plastic surgery. Finally the told me my CT results, I didn't have a broken cheekbone, and I could go home. I stayed a little longer and then exchanged numbers with the friend to stay up to date about the operation, which will take place sometime tomorrow, don't know when exactly.

Ughh my cheek is so swollen and painful and it will take a long time before it's completely healed, about 3 weeks. I feel so bad & embarrassed! :( but I guess it could've been worse, and even though he needs an operation, that guy could also have ended up a lot worse..

xx Louise

Hi sweety, good to hear more of the details, though our messages & ph call cleared up a lot too. It certainly could have been a lot worse. I hope u r not blaming urself, coz it really is an accident and no body's fault. Both stupid yes, but can't blame 1 person. I hope u soon feel much beter and the swelling goes down. Maybe staying at Wendy's is a good idea, but only if you want to, maybe it's all ok and you r fine where u r with some new friends. Good luck .. send photos of ur beautiful face!! xxxxx Mamma

Wow Louise, what an experience! Hope you are feeling better quickly and that you won't have an everlasting souvenir of this trip from this fall.
As the job hunting is not going so well now, perhaps it will help to stretch your money a little longer drinking a little less. Much safer at that!
Keep your chin up!

xx Anouk
