Today we took a walking tour of the city, it was very informative as well as entertaining! We saw Marienplatz square, the Glockenspiel, the Cathedral (home parish of the current Pope), new & old town hall, The Opera house, Hauftbrauhuas the famous beer gardens, learned some German history, and a lot about beer and Octoberfest! World Cup starts in a few days, and you can see the city building up to it. There are mini-fields set up all over downtown, and you can't walk more than a few feet without tripping over souvenir merchandise. I'm sure it will be quite the event!
For dinner we went back to the Augustiner, sat with 5 German women who were from a small town south of Munich and took the train up for the day to go to the theatre. Also 3 Americans and a couple Italians, the Italians had a bit much to drink and were singing at the top of their lungs, and clinking glasses every 5 minutes. Not the place to go for a quiet drink!
Tomorrow we are off to Dubrovnik, where hopefully the weather will improve. If I wanted this much rain I could have stayed in Vancouver :)
