Yesterday I took the train to Brighton for the day, to meet up with a few friends. First order of business was to drop Jo's stuff off at the hotel. There were a few snags though: we didn't know the address of the hotel, were uncertain of the name, and didn't know who had made the reservation. We did manage to find it (by sheer luck really!) and then decided to go see the sights.

We walked a fair way through town before coming to the Royal Pavillion http://www.royalpavilion.org.uk/, which has one of the most lavishly decorated interiors I have ever seen, including a 9 metre high chandelier, that weighs one ton! After that we wandered down the beach to the pier, which has a whole amusement park on it. There are rides, and games, and all the traditional fair food like cotton candy and candy apples. It was sunny, but really windy and cold, yet there were lots of hard-core people out on the beach, and even one windsurfer!

After the pier we wandered up through the Lanes, which is an area of shops through narrow alleys. I think we were all expecting some funky one-off type places, but it was mostly chains. By then it was time to go and meet the rest of the group for a pint and to find some dinner! We ended up at this veggie restaurant that definitely lacked ambiance but made up for it with good food. All the pubs seemed to stop serving food at 5pm, which we thought was strange for a Saturday. All in all a fun way to spend a Saturday in England!
