Today Karen and I went on an adventure to see my first castle! It is Portchester Castle, about a 20 min drive from Southampton. It is completely walled in, and has a large Saxon church in one corner of the grounds. We took the audio tour, which was absolutely hilarious. It was narrated by two characters, one a French soldier who was jailed there during the 1700's when it was used as a prison. You can go all the way up to the roof of the Keep, and it has a gorgeous view of the grounds and the sea. It even had a moat! Quite a small one, hard to imagine it keeping anything out really, but still, it was a moat.

On the way there we stopped and had lunch at a lovely pub, which also looked out over the sea. On a clear day you can see the Isle of Wight, but unfortunately it was quite a foggy day. Great food though!
