So, back in Italy I am staying about a half hour outside of Florence in a town called San Giovanni Voldarno. It is very small and quaint! I am staying with a couple, Francesca and Gianluca in their gorgeous flat. I've spent the last couple days exploring the art in Florence, wandering around churches, galleries, palaces! There is so much to see.

Last night we went for dinner to their friends' house. It is out in the middle of nowhere in Tuscany, a beautiful old farmhouse set in an olive grove, big swimming pool, stunning view. There was me, and 10 Italians, most of whom spoke little English. It was so much fun though! It was just like out of a movie: loud, expressive, jovial, and loud!

Tano, the host, spoke practically no English. But he was very interested in me, my trip, Canada, and what it was like. He told some crazy stories, with mime and the interpretation of others, about smuggling drugs inside tuna in their eggs, what curling is really like, the tale of a serial killer in Tuscany years back, and his son finding some magic mushrooms. Everyone was so friendly, and the food of course was amazing. There were bottles and bottles of wine, and as soon as your glass approached empty, someone swooped in and filled it again. I left feeling more than a little light-headed.
