The bus trip from Pamukkale was an uneventful 4.5 hours. Fethiye is a lout more touristy and expensive than anywhere else I have been so far! I rented a scooter and drove out to Saklikent Gorge, which is about 50 km out of Fethiye. On the way I got stopped by the police, they had a road check set up and were randomly stopping people it appeared. I hadn't been doing anything wrong, but I was still nervous!

The officer just asked me a few questions about where I was from and where I was going, then sent me on my way telling me to enjoy my vacation! I later read that they often stop tourists as they enjoy chatting with them, it breaks up the monotony of their day.

Saklikent was a fabulous place for an afternoon walk, after about the first 500m there is a small rushing river that you have to wade through to get to the other side. The water is waist deep and freezing cold! I debated for a bit whether to cross, I had my camera and everything with me. Lots of people were doing it though, and weren't falling in so I figured I would be fine.

The gorge extends up about 300m on either side, and you can walk for about 6km of it. Most people only do a few hundred metres and then turn back, though it's not difficult. Alll along the bottom end are restaurants, most with eating areas suspended over the water. A very relaxing place to have lunch!

After I drove out to Calis beach, and then to an 18th century abandoned village about 7km behind Fethiye. The pension I stayed at is the first place I've stayed that I would describe as sketchy, but as some of the people staying there said, it's cheap! Tomorrow I head off on my 4 day boat cruise!
