I've fallen in love, and I've only been away for just over a week! With Greece, or Santorini in particular. It's incredible!

I took the overnight ferry on Thursday from Athens. For the extra 13 euros to get a cabin with a bed, it was well worth it. I had a great sleep, while those spread out on the floor, chairs and couches I fear did not!

I'm staying in Oia (ee-ah) which is the most northern tip of Santorini, and where many famous photos of the white buildings with blue domes are taken. It is unbelievable!! I don't even know how to describe it. The village is built on a cliff, the caldera, and there are only a few small roads. Everything else is connected by stone paths, and millions of stairs. The buildings are a mixture of residences, rentals, shops, cafes and tavernas. There is one main path that runs along the top, from here there are the most fantastic views. It's a fairy tale village, and defies gravity that it doesn't crash in to the sea.

In the evening I wandered around and stopped at a taverna overlooking the sea for dinner. I enjoyed some wonderful Greek music, and had moussaka and souvlaki. After I finished, the owner, Sterios asked if he could join me under the guise of needing someone to help him finish his carafe of wine. Countless carafes of wine and some great broken English stories later, we were joined by his friend Yanni and son Nikolas. At the end of the evening Sterios invited me out on his small fishing boat the next day for a little tour. As I literally stumbled home (too much wine and a very rocky path), I marvelled at what a day I had!
