We're staying in a restored farm house called Torre di Sotto outside Lucca (near Florence) for a whole week. Lucca in Tuscany is a walled city, with the most well preserved Renaissance wall in the world, and is the birthplace of Puccini, the opera composer.

Giorgio the owner is very nice, and Mrs. Giulia the housekeeper speaks no English, but we have fun communicating with her through pantomiming. Also the fact that we speak no Italian doesn't keep Mrs. Giulia from talking to us in rapid-fire Italian anyway! We're enjoying cooking for ourselves using the local market and picking fresh herbs from the pots surrounding the farmhouse. Actually, we think we're in heaven. We collected water from a natural spring just down the hill from our farmhouse. From our patio high on a hillside above olive groves and vineyards, we can see Lucca 3 miles away.
