We wandered the main shopping street of Vienna marveling at the architecture - each building had a unique façade; some in Art Nouveau style, others very modern. After checking out and racing with luggage to catch the express bus to the airport, we picked up our friends Holly and Barry as they came out of customs, got a rental car (after much haggling over the price due to unexpected 'insurance fees' to drive into the wild outlaw land of Hungary) and drove SE across Austria to Hungary and to the Balaton lake region. On the way, Mark went through a speed trap at the edge of an Austrian town just before the Hungarian border and got a speeding ticket - Cindy saved the day with her German, because the Austrian cop didn't (or wouldn't) speak English and Mark's German is non-existent. We had to pay a 20 Euro ($25 fine) on the spot. Could have been much worse!

We drove through the Burgenland wine region of Austria and across the western end of Hungary to the Club Dobogomajor at the west end of lake Balaton. It is a beautiful area with many beaches and resorts. Holly and Barry traded a week from the timeshare they own for a week at this club, and invited us to spend it with them, giving us a great chance to visit Budapest (2 ½ hours away by car) and see much of the Hungarian countryside.

After settling in, we had dinner at the club and played a few hands of bridge with H&B before bed.
