The Mushroom Farm and Livingstonia

The first full day we decided to go for a walk to Livingstonia the village and have lunch. We then hoped to visit the waterfalls on the way back.
We started soon after breakfast. We found several easy shortcuts in the beginning that passed by farms, houses and schools. About half way to the town the trail started to get more difficult with steep ascents and descents. When we finally reached Livingstonia and the only restaurant open (in the Stone House) they told us the only food they had were cookies and soda, not a proper lunch but we were hungry so that was our lunch. On our way back we stopped by the top of the water falls, which are pretty big (It was a long way down to the bottom from our perspective. We then returned to the Mushroom Farm.
The next day we decided to take a walk to the Lukwe Farm, which is another Bush camp (similar to the Mushroom Farm). It is a few km up the road towards Livingstonia. When we reached the farm we ordered a lunch of tomato soup, chips and pasta all with really good bread. As we were waiting for our lunch, the owner (Bruce, an American) came to talk with us. He was a very nice man who was a wealth of information for how to get from one place to another in Malawi. He lived at the farm with his wife and daughter. He explained how they reinvested most to all proceeds his farm made to the community, including helping to pay for the school of his workers, paying for the school for an orphan girl and another young man who wished to be an auto mechanic. Hearing this made the place seem even nicer. He gave us a tour of the place, which has a similar set up to the Mushroom Farm, with clean and simple rooms along with the composting toilets and shared showers.
