This morning I woke up at the Hatters Hostel in Manchester to pack for my train to York. In the Dorm a young roommate, an English boy around 18 or 19 years old was laying fully clothed on his bed. I could tell that there was something terribly wrong. It was obvious, he was terrified. I had gone to the bathroom for a shower and when I returned he was gone!

He had been picked up by someone, I think a school official, and taken to the hospital. That same man came back to our room a couple hours later to collect his things. He then told me what had happened. Sometime after one this morning the boy was walking back from a night club, a huge black man who had been hiding in the dark, grabbed him from behind and threw him into a car that had pulled up. He was robbed of all his valuables and then raped, and then finally left somewhere outside of town.

He had gone out last night with an others staying at the hostel, and as it was getting late he refused to walk with anyone else who was heading back to the hostel. He had told one person that he was very familiar with Manchester. I guess that there is really nothing more left for me to say here. I just do not feel like getting on my soapbox about personal responsibity that you should have in staying safe.
