Second day at Vegas we make the decision to take the trip to the Grand Canyon via the Hoover dam, its about an hour to the dam and have to stay it was a bit bigger than I expected!
! We checked out the visitor centre, took some photos of the steepness and then decided to do the 4 hour drive to the Grand Canyon...so we crossed the dam into Arizona and also lost an hour. After the long drive to the Canyon we noticed snow on the ground, not good as we left our gloves, hat and warm coats back at the hotel. Get out the car and it was blimming freezing. We took the short walk to the canyon edge and wow what a sight.....you never appreciate the scale until you see it with your own eyes. Was a great experiance and although there is a fence around the edge you didnt get too close...just in case!! After spending about an hour there we had to head back as it was too cold and also getting dark. We stopped for a hot chocolate and then took the drive back to Vegas. Getting back late we decided to just hit the sack!
Saturday in Vegas, time to spend some money in the slots, catch a show and have a few beers. We walked down to the Stratosphere and made our way up to the MGM having drinks along the way. We managed to get tickets for Robin Williams so both excited by that. We watched the show and then decided to both have a flutter in the MGM. After both losing (me more than elly) we went back and crashed.
Our last day in Vegas we had a lazy day, we were both knackered as we have just been doing things non stop since we arrived in the USA. Went to Walmart, got some food and just chilled out in front of the 100+ channels on the TV.
Next morning we was up early and took the long long drive to San Franciscoooo.
After a four hour drive we arrive in Sin City excited at the prospect of taking in the lights, sounds and entertainment the city could give us. We arrive at our hotel and its a great start to the stay as basically we have an apartment with kitchen, dining room, large sofas etc etc. That evening we take a walk down the strip and found a huge number of people lining the streets, we manage to get a good viewing spot and find a load of US Nascars all lined up, then a huge cheer goes up and the drivers had got off a coach and into the cars, about 5mins later they all start the engines and start to rev their engines and move down the strip wheelspinning, donutting etc. Was very loud and a good start to the stay. Then we find a midget Elvis...great photo opportunity right there. Also during our stay its the Rodeo finals so everywhere you look there are cowboy hats/boots and dodgy accents.
