Well today was the day to head off to Maine for the main reason for our trip - our reunion with Dave's sister after 28 years and the wedding on Saturday of her son, Rob. We had breakfast at the inn and chatted to a lovely Scottish couple who had just arrived yesterday. Then it was a fond farewell to our little room at the Foxberry and off down the cape so we could head north.

We stopped for brunch at Plymouth and once again it seemed like a place that we would like to explore a bit more but I was keen to visit Walden Pond on the way up to Maine so we didn't stop.

Walden Pond was great. It was extremely busy down at the beach but that was no surprise because I had read it was a popular spot for families to go swimming in the summer. We walked around the pond as far as Thoreau's house site so I could see where he had lived for that couple of years and imagined myself living in a lovely little spot like that and enjoying the peace and quiet and gorgeous views of the pond. I bought a copy of his book at the giftshop and will enjoy reading it now I have actually been there and seen it for myself.

As we were arriving in Maine we saw 5 fighter jets flying in formation and practicing for the air show so that was a real treat, if a little distracting for the driver!

We finally arrived at Lesley's about 5pm to a very warm welcome and a home-cooked meal which was a real treat. We chatted till quite late as there are 28 years to catch up on! The rest of the family arrive tomorrow so then it will be all go!! It's just such a shame that our boys cannot be here too.
