We actually leave Germany to stay in Reutte, Austria for two nights, but tomorrow we go to see two castles in Germany. Some of the group will take a 1 ½ hour hike to the first church but Kris and I and a few others will take the bus later. Got to save our energy as there is lots of walking and climbing to do without making more unnecessarily. We’ll leave that to the younger, fitter of our little group of 26. We had a big 4-course meal tonight. Best soup I’ve ever had, salad bar, salmon & risotto, and ice-cream crepe & fruit for dessert.
Well today was exhausting without taking the hike. The first castle was Hohenschwangau belonging to King Ludwig. Lots and lots of pathways to get up to the church and then lots of stairs inside. Couldn’t take pictures but it was very impressive. After lunch we hiked up to the newest of “Mad” King Ludwig’s Neuschwanstein Castle. It’s the white castle that Disney’s castle was based upon. Absolutely gorgeous inside. It was never completely finished before he died (or was murdered) and it was actually just a summer home. It was much more amazing then the first castle. Again lots of stairs to climb up and down and then a 30-minute walk down back to the bus. Exhausting!
On the way back to our hotel in Austria we stopped at a place in the Alps to go for a luge ride or two. Scary at first but most of us went at least twice. We again had a delicious 4-course dinner and after a few of us went for a short walk to a local church and cemetery. The cemetery was so well kept and each grave site was beautifully groomed and had amazing, not only tombstones, but statues and other decorations and lots of flowers.
Not sure if this got sent so sorry if its a repeat.
