Today we made a knife with our teachers Steven and his wife Robyn.....

Our starter kit consisted of a piece of steel, some wood, a couple of pins and a bit of brass.... and ta'da: A knife it created!

The day was fantastic, we got to forge our own steel blade in the hot coals and bang it into shape.

We then made a handle by jigsawing around some timber and we then attached our brass.

We then got to grind all the wood and brass into the shape of the steel, which was the best bit.......

.....and then we got to sand and polish our knife during the afternoon to make it look lovely.... Stu's blade looked like a mirror, I went for the 'matt' look!

It was a really an excellent day, we got to do Axe throwing and BB gun shooting during our breaks and some of our group had a go on the massive swing they have in the garden.

But best of all, at the end of the day, Stuart and the lads had a skin full with some of Steven's homebrew and I went for a horse ride on one of Robyn's horses, it was lovely going for a quick trot in the countryside - it was so cool as it was all included in the price of the knife making - $95 each!

A real man...
...would have sharpened his knife by hand, none of these namby-pamby power tools. As such this knife crafing act that I first felt raised Stu's manly stature now casts him down into the soft pink fluffy world of little girls, perhaps even with a my little pony.

I think you should give serious consideration to your behaviour here; have a good think about the errors you've made and go back there and make another, *manly*, knife. This time smelting the iron yourself, from ores you minded by hand, over a fire of wood you chopped and coals you mined, using a hammer and anvil you also made yourself, polished and sharpened by hand, the final edge being added with a leather strap made the hide of an animal you took down with your only hands. Only then will you have redeemed yourself.
